The term "sustainability" has been used in many different contexts. For Millennial Goods, it means one thing: humanity achieving ecological balance and harmony with the Earth.

For millennia, indigenous peoples were generally very capable of living sustainably. Today, however, exploding human populations combined with the agricultural and industrial "revolutions" are destroying the health and sustainability of our Earth's biosphere.

To us, sustainability is a philosophical imperative.

We understand that the knowledge, technologies, and whole systems theories now exist to restore harmony in the complex relationships between humankind and the biosphere. For example: new sustainable food-growing technologies now make it possible to effectively harness the power of the Sun and the natural fertility of the Earth to manufacture massive quantities of high quality foods. Similarly, we now have technologies capable of cleaning up large bodies of fresh and salt water, and reversing soil erosion brought about by monoculture crops and destructive agricultural practices. And other technologies now make it possible to break down toxic wastes (chemical and radioactive) into non-toxic components.

The technologies are here today. The urgent job we see for Millennial Goods is to offer effective technologies at the best prices possible, to educate the public about their availability and their effectiveness, and to encourage governments, large corporations and other major institutions (e.g., churches, schools) to embrace their use. The timing for this is excellent as sustainability continues rising in the public's consciousness and is increasingly viewed as a competitive edge by major corporations such as Interface, Inc.

Sustainability is not a fixed idea. It is about relationships, and change; it needs to be experienced and evolved. We cannot set specific rules for sustainability, but we can define specific systems and processes for attaining the balance we seek.

It is Millennial Goods' intention, as an educational presence for sustainability, to provide for all our clients the most accurate information about sustainability, and effective models for education at the home, community and industrial levels.
