Guidance On:
Choosing the Right Generator Size: Our Onan/Cummins generators come in three basic categories: Portables (2000 Watts to 6000 Watts) - Transportable backup power for construction, on-site or emergency applications. These units supply a good deal of power, but cannot be run 24 hours per day. Recommended daily use ranges from 5 to 10 hours max per day. At max usage, the units must be properly maintained. Commercial (4500 to 6500 Watts) - While known as "commercial" units, these are not only good for commercial applications - they make great home generator systems, as they are easy to install and can include sound-proof enclosures. These units will run 24-hrs a day, and are much more robust than the portables. Highly recommended for home power applications. Most homes will run quite happily on the 4500 Watt GenSet, especially if equipped with backup battery capacity to help handle load surges. Home/Industrial standby (12,000 Watts) - These units provide more power for larger homes or "mission critical" applications. Their 12kW capacity will handle almost any home backup situation with juice to spare. The RS12,000s can come with an additional Transfer Panel which automatically switches your house off the grid when power fails, and cuts in the Generator within 3 seconds.
